sorry we haven't updated this in forever! right now, we're hanging out in chicago, working on new music and all kinds of fun things! our east coast tour went swimmingly! we played a whole slew of awesome shows up and down the coast and at many points in between! i can't even count the number of amazing new friends we met and we can't wait to see everyone again! we're in the planning stages of an east coast tour this spring... hooray! we'll let you all know more details in the next week or two... in the meantime, here's some pictures from our last trip [in reverse chronological order, of course!]!

hey east coast!

we're coming for ya! this november + december we're embarking on a east coast tour from chicago to upstate new york, through the northeast and down, down, down to florida and quickly back up to chicago for christmas... yay! we want to come to yer town and party it up with you! we'll play anywhere + everywhere including yer kitchen, basement, bar, art gallery, cafe, parent's house, school, college, bathroom, dorm laundry room! here's what tour looks like so far... if you know any venues, bands, or places to play, do let us know! you can reach us here, at hockeybz12@gmail.com or at 312.952.8780. the tail end of the tour [from greensboro to chicago] is still pretty flexible, so if you live nearby and want us to come see you, we will!!

welcome back to your regularly scheduled program! sorry we've been off the blog for so long. we played a super fun show in oakland at mama buzz with gladiators eat fire, who were one of the loudest most epicly awesome bands we've seen! egad! we went to the beach after the show and hung out with them and it was delightful! played in sf with the lovely ash reiter at the mojo bicycle cafe. it was a super tiny spot right on divisadero. whilst in sf we met up with our friend who also happened to be visting from alaska, arielle, and partyed it up in castro! yeehaw! after our bicycle cafe show it was time to split paths for a bit as steffi went on out to a wedding in minnesota, while i manned tammy and wound my way down the bay. things were going great until san jose when bam! tammy's tranny went out! damn you ford, damn you! this caused amazing complications as you could imagine, especially since i was supposed to pick up steffi soon. after getting the run around from ford, we moved tammy to aamco and they saved her! i squeaked in a rental car and rushed to pick up steffi. we met up with tammy the next day, packed up the necessary gear into the rental car, and headed down to southern california to play some shows!

first up was the biko garage in isla vista. after wandering to the beach and gathering naturally occurring tar on the soles of our feet [which i still think i have some on there], we went to biko. we played in a super cool garage with cats and all kinds of goodies on the walls! adsr + miniature trees played with us and it was so much fun! adsr was one guy who played everything using loops and electronics to his advantage. miniature trees was a super technical and super great math rocky band from san diego i believe. their set was captivating and loud and lovely! we spent the night and were off to la the next day. we stayed with jeremey + preston in hollywood and it was a super awesome spot. our first show in the area was on friday at the smell. we played a rollicking fun show with captain ahab [ohmigawd!] kid infinity [with one of the coolest homemade light shows ever!] and kevin blechdom [with super theatrical goodness!]. we met some really awesome folks and had so much fun dancing the night away!! the next day we headed down to san pedro to play harold's place. the second we walked in it was like cheers where everyone knows yer name, only a million times better because there was some grit + grime + super cool folks all around! we played with a couple super energetic punk bands + bombon, an all grrrl surf trio from san pedro as well. it was a super wild fun night and we met so many awesome amazing people and we can not wait to get back! on monday we headed over to the tribal cafe for a show with headlights + persona la ave. both bands had a cool electronic feel to them on opposite ends of the spectrum. i was in awe at headlights set and could not turn away as axel twisted and turned all kinds of knobs to make ridiculously wild sounds. it was a hoot!

we had about a week until our next show so we decided to head on down to venice beach. oh! did i mention that we got tammy back on monday morning? it was great to be back with her and she's running great! anywho, venice was a riot. it was scuzzy, but in the most delightful way possible. we biked up and down the beach and ended up at the santa monica pier at night. it was so cool to see all the rides and the pier lit up like oddly shapen metallic christmas trees! up next was the oc! oh no! the oc was so ritzy, we couldn't fathom it. it was exactly what you thought it would be. we headed back up to santa maria for an acoustic park show. we must have gone up and down us-101 a million times and slept at the same rest stop on two or three occasions. anyways, we played an acoustic show in a huge park in santa maria. it had the cushiest grass that we had ever stepped foot on. once sitting down we didn't want to go anywhere. even where the first round of frolfers came we stood our ground and continued playing and talking and making new friends. it felt good to play acoustic again and was a nice change of pace. we played one last song and as we were leaving a group of super anxious and not very good frolfers just couldn't wait any longer and threw their disc and hit my wrist... those bastards! nevertheless we escaped and said our goodbyes and were off to las vegas!

sin city, usa! we checked into our super mod room at the flamingo as we prepared for stefanie's birthday. we had an amazing pool, free drinks, slots a plenty, and so much neon! we met up with stef's family friend mary + her fiance joe who were two of the nicest people we've ever met! they took us to fremont street and showed us where vegas began and told us all the cool spots to hit up on the strip. we wandered around vegas for a couple days pool hopping, taking in the neon, gathering free drinks and cheap food, and having a blast. for steffi's birthday, joe was able to get us tickets to see terry fator! woohoo! he was great and we'll post a video or two up later. he did ventriloquism with a bunch of different characters and sang really amazing impressions through the puppets. it was wild! we had a very late dinner in paris and topped off the night with some creme brulee. after we checked out, we wandered around the strip some more, catching places we had missed, before we went down to flagstaff. we stopped at treasure island to get some free slot play and then something amazing happened! after putting in a dollar, steffi got three flaming sevens and won $260! booyah! we came out ahead even when you factored in eating and gambling! yesssss! and it was instantly off to flagstaff after that! ha! we got to drive over the hoover dam and drove through the ridiculously high desert until we got to flagstaff. we arrived at the haunted hotel monte vista and played a quick acoustic set and a longer electric set for a super fun night. we got to stay in the air supply room and looked out the window the next morning and hey! it's late for the train coffee! a delicious treat right across the street! we served this for quite a while at the coffeeshop i worked at and it's so good! we're going to grab a bite to eat and we'll try and get pictures + videos up soon! we're off to phoenix and more desert today! midwest, we'll see you so soon!

so so sorry we havent updated since seattle. we had an awesome time staying with payme jinkstaff (jamie pinkstaff?) and his girlfriend lizzy in portland, or! thanks soooo much! We played three shows, first being at the fridge ( a house venue). We played with lots of great bands. there were five of us! and every band had completely different sounds! ryan remains rocked out on guitar with cello backing him up, folk punk fun. he's from juneau! actually it seemed kinda like a party full of ak-ers. callow played next, soooooo goooood! they were from san fran! raised by television was an acoustic cluster of awesomeness, and they were from portland. next a band called the lost tourists all the way from baltimore! they were heavy, metallic with a touch of funky tones. we ran into mikaila from anchorage! our buddy jerry from anchorage! and jamie was there, felt a touch of home!
on tuesday, bobbbbby's birthday!!!! we played at ella st. social club, in dtown portland. it was a cool little place. we found out later it used to be a morgue! they kept the unliving right where the stage now is, oooooh spooky! the roaming and the happening played with us, thanks guys!!!
the twilight cafe was one of those places you drive around looking for, and once you find it.. you don't have any idea how you got there. after driving for 30 minutes we found the cool little diner like bar located between a bunch of strip clubs. party party. david coffman and treva jackson played with us and they were awesome. Jamie backed us up on fiddle and it was soooooooo great we wish he could come with us on the tour to play every show! david let us stay at his home and we got a bed with 300 pillows... too comfy for our own good... steffi fell asleep hours before everybody.
we moved on to euguene and played at a house with billy mack collector! we loooooved them soo much! we had oh so much fun hanging out with them! luna and schulyer were so nice to let us play at there house, then sleep there after! we had a music full slumber party in the living room! the next morning we ate a greasy breakfast at a little diner called GJ's. we moved on to coos bay from there and spent a day on the beach with the billy mack crew! ate some hot dogs around the fire and had a great time. moved on to brookings, or the following day. it is located in southern oregon on the coast. pretty much the last town on the 101 before california. We played an acoustic set in the back yard of 1010 easy street. a GREAT address, right? Thanks to superkris, rob and the whole fam for setting it up, feeding us and giving us a place to stay. you guys were too great to us! steffi bobby eric and a very excited person named tim made a trek to the ocean! we had a fire and a long walk back to easy street! we had a lot of fun hanging out and playing a few shows with billy mack collector! we are excited to see some more of them this winter!

we spent a couple days driving through and getting lost in the redwood forests. we took two scenic drives off the 101 hwy: the newton b. drury scenic parkway and the avenue of the giants. the redwoods are SOoOoOO amazing! the pictures really don't do them justice! the redwoods are so big they go through 3 different climate zones! and survive wild fires! we saw so many with burns and hollowed out trunks, but they were still growing strong! there are a lot of silly roadside attractions like "the chimney tree" or the "tour thru tree" along the way. we love tacky roadside stops!!!!

we took the coastal hwy 1 off of the 101 and it was a pretty intense drive. twists and turns all up and down steep hills with no cell phone reception anywhere! the view was increadible and worth it! we ended up in petaluma, ca.. which is where we are now updating this blog in their community library. we will be moving on to the bay area to play a show at mama buzz 8/9 @ 7pm in oakland and mojo bicycle cafe 8/11 8pm in sanfran!

the show at full tilt icecream was a lot of fun! we played with a band called rare birds and rosemary, it was fun being among fellow freaky birds! we met some very nice people, the icecream was super duper and the pinball was so fun! i don't remember the last time i actually played. there were a lot of really old arcade games there! we have pictures we'll get up soon.. but not today! seattle and olympia have been a lot of fun, but now we're headed south to portland after a possible walk through the evergreen woods!
we're playing a house show tonight in portland at "the fridge." 5 bands! its going to be a ruckus! we'll also be playing [bobby's birthday shhh!!] july 27th at the ella st. social club and july 29th at the twilight cafe. you can always contact us through facebook or myspace if you have any questions about our shows! thanks much and be back soon!

vancouver, olympia, seattle, snoqualmie, oh my!

alas! we left smithers in a flurry and made it down to vancouver. it was so strange being in a city again with the traffic and the people and whatnot. we ate a very awkward lunch at a diner in downtown vancouver. we were the only people in the restaurant. the proprietor of this establishment brought us two unasked for cups of a strange soup that was very thick and vegetabley. i have no idea what it was but we had to appease him. then out came steffi's grilled cheese + bacon. only it was a cheeseburger. he said he'd give us the burger for the price of the grilled cheese as if he was doing us a favor. strange indeed. canada has gotten very expensive so we couldn't stay too long. we saw magic kids and ariel pink's haunted graffiti play a show at the biltmore. it was quite the fun show despite numerous sound problems. ariel pinlk is so cute when he's mad! magic kids were a wonderful poppy band from memphis... check 'em out!

we had zero hassles at the border. i was amazed. it was delightful! we rolled into olympia on thursday night and caught our friend stella's performance in othello set in 1968 gangland new york! delicious! intense! wonderful! ate very hearty servings of food at quality burrito afterwards and promptly passed out. we took in the sights of olympia on friday + it's quite the nice town! record stores, bookshops, and boutiques abound! on saturday we played a super fun show at the red house with the terrordactyls [party train folk from seattle], wild mocassins [six peice dance party from houston], and razz m'tazz [three piece keyboard/drum machine bonanza!]. it was an early dance party and got the night started right! we had the best grilled cheese at le voyeur after the show. on sunday we hung out with our transplanted friend from alaska, libby and made the most absurd plate of nachos ever. double layered + filled to the brim with cheese, chips, beans, cilantro, onions, corn, and a whole bunch more i can't remember.

on monday we headed up to seattle late in the day for our show at the comet tavern. we played with consignment + mark sparkles. both bands were super fun! the mark sparkles had oodles of energy + consignment's sound made me want to bob up and down. we spent the night and were off to snoqualmie in the morning.

twin peaks! or snoqualmie to most, was our destination. we saw all the sights form the double r diner to the saw mill to the great northern + the picnic spot all the way to where the twin peaks sign was + the woods of the black lodge. most of the places were very very different from the show, but, well, things change i suppose. it was still really cool to see where everything had been + made the endless driving looking for the spots worth it! come night fall we headed to fall city [home of the bookhouse + roadhouse] and camped nest to the snoqualmie river. on wednesday we swam in the river for hours! back and forth getting swept by the current, steffi even jumped off the diving board log! egad! what fun we had!

today is thursday and we're back in olympia for the night. we're off to a show in seattle at full tilt ice cream tomorrow and then down to portland for a few shows. we're ready to get on down the coast! see you on the road!

7-12-10 - 3 days after departure!

we left anchorage in a flurry at 10.30 am on july 9th. we drove and drove some more and kept driving and driving at a nice speed until the hell spawn of frost heaves between the american and canadian border. we contemplated moving there... there'd be no laws! only ours! and no everything else, but, well, you know, you have to deal with it. anyways, we crossed the frost heave hell that stayed with us until just outside of whitehorse, where we arrived at 2.30 in the morning on saturday. we stayed with our friend sam who had two of the most adorable puppies! animal + sims were cute as buttons! eeeeeeeee! whitehorse brought about the reintroduction of many great canadian delicacies such as:
dill pickle chips
tim horton's
bacon chips
no name brand everything
new wave cola

we went to the mud bogs and meandered around a beach and town on saturday + prepared for a long haul to smithers on sunday. a late jump put us on the cassiar highway right around nightfall. there are no yellow lines or markings on the road for a large amount of the highway. eventually it got much too dark to function and we had to rest. before it got too dark we played the wildlife vs. cars game. we saw:
3 bears
2 foxes
1 moose
1 bunny
for a total of 7 wildlife and we saw 13 cars... absurd!!!
woke up at 6.30 and rolled onwards and forwards to smithers. every gas station is closed in canada. every single one. coffee was scarce, but we made it to smithers around 1.30 and popped into a hotel, showered, and headed to the alpenhorn where we played an interesting and fun show for the first one of tour. somewhere in there we got a writeup on mojophenia which you can read here. i just realized i haven't slept since 6.30 am and am getting very very sleepy. stef is writing a new song on her keyboard. i'm excited to hear it!

we're leaving anchorage come friday! oh. mi. gosh. we had a lovely time in fairbanks, where the city is full of the nicest people on earth. we played a very fun set at fourth fest at bernie's bungalow lounge in lovely downtown anchorage. we got to see some of our favorite bands one last time before we hit the road. shy bones + the wagner logic busted out some joyous sets + we're gonna miss them bunches! i'll stop with the talking and get on with the photoing! here's some pictures from our trip in fairbanks. we'll be in whitehorse friday night + our next show is in smithers, bc on july 12th at 7 pm at the alpenhorn bistro... see ya there!

right now we are in fairbanks, ak and having a great time! we played a show last night at the well st. art gallery with some awesome bands! thanks so much to the goodtime orchestra, feeding frenzy and work for making the show great! and of course everybody that came to watch/listen, it wouldn't have been much fun without you guys!
we're now heading to our show at the college coffe house with night of the iguana and a dude named bernie.. excited for fun! have a wonderful day and stay tuned for our next post!
